Anniversary
What an incredible ride it has been as we head into our 30th year of leading drug free bodybuilding and physique competition.
I would be remissed in writing anything further without mentioning the name of Cheh N Low, founder of the INBF/WNBF in 1989. Mr Low worked incredibly hard to create the WNBF brand, and he was successful through several publications notably Natural Bodybuilding and Fitness Magazine.
Also heavily supporting the overall success of the federation was former President Steve Downs (pictured in the suit) who was the editor and chief of this magazine. Steve brought such professionalism to the sport as head judge and emcee for events, while he was always very personable with athletes.
Working hand in hand was former Vice President Charlie Carollo, and beautiful wife Laura Carollo. “Uncle Charlie” was in charge of overseeing the drug testing controls of the WNBF, assisting promoters with all aspects of running competitions, communicating with athletes, and supporting all of the foreign affiliates.
Laura helped out in so many ways at events that most people never even knew about, and was a kind and helpful face to see at check-in.
Fast forward nearly three decades to 2019, well over a million dollars paid out in pro prize money, and up to 10,000 urine tests examined from athletes all around the world.
The WNBF Pro/Am World Championships will be returning to its’ birth place; New York City for 2019! We couldn’t be more ecstatic to be hosting Worlds back in the Big Apple, and we hope that you all will join us in this incredible celebration.
On behalf of the INBF and WNBF I wanted to offer a very personal Thank You to all of those leaders and athletes alike who have come and gone before us, and for all the efforts in helping make this federation what it is today. We pledge to continue stringently drug testing each and every athlete without compromise which has been the focus of our organization since its inception. Additionally, we vow to continue to do everything possible to ensure that each competitor has the best overall experience at our events, as we respect them, and do understand what it means to be a Truly Natural athlete!
